Research & Database

Every link records
its evidence and its limits.

The BREYDO Database links ingredients, compounds, targets and pathways. We counted these numbers ourselves.

Ingredients
376

331 plants, plus fungi, algae, animal-derived and processed ingredients. Each has a page linking its compounds and related research.

Compounds
1,626

1,090 small molecules; the rest are mixtures, extracts, polysaccharides and so on. 1,017 carry an InChIKey and a PubChem ID.

Targets
231

Proteins, enzymes and genes a compound may reach.

Pathways
299

Mechanism pathways that connect the targets.

The action matrix in our database records 1,600+ interactions, each with at least one entry stating its evidence type and grade.Data as of October 2026

How we check

  1. Layered evidenceEnzyme, cell and receptor assays are recorded separately, never blended.
  2. Stated limitsEach link says which model it was measured in, the value, and where it should not be extrapolated.
  3. A cell is not a personActive in a cell is not the same as effective in a person.
  4. Still under studyWhere something hasn’t been tested, we say so rather than draw a conclusion.
  5. Retractions down-weightedRetracted papers are down-weighted and not used as evidence.

Six ingredients (luo han guo, cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, ginger, mint, black pepper) and the taste, warmth, pungency and cooling receptors they link to. Every line comes from the action matrix in our database, with its evidence type and grade; drag a node to see what it connects to.

Ingredient → compound → target → pathway. Every link records its evidence type and its limits: enzyme, cell and receptor assays are kept apart, because active in a cell is not the same as effective in a person. Where it hasn’t been tested, we say it is still under study.
